1. Community Budget Task Force update
When Governor Chris Gregoire released her proposed state budget for education in December 2008, the state was forecasting a $6 billion shortfall in revenue for 2009-2011. Since then, the projection has been increased to nearly a $8 billion. School districts across the state have been put on notice that there will be less revenue available for education in 2009-2010.
The Community Budget Task Force is meeting to study this problem and serve in an advisory capacity as the budget is developed this spring. The task force meetings are open to the public and will be held from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the district office on March 23, April 30 and May 21.
On Friday, February 27, a new website was posted that features a new section on budget development including lists of proposed budget reductions and a survey for providing feedback. The Washougal School District website address is http://www.washougal.k12.wa.us.

4. Transportation safety meeting summary
Central Precinct Commander, Chuck Atkins, of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department joined district staff and a parent representative to analyze bus safety, particularly on the Washougal River Road. An action plan was developed that included bus driver training for bus stops where students cross the road to board the bus as well as increased law enforcement along the River Road during bus travel times 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. weekdays.
We appreciate the value of parental oversight at bus stops and encourage volunteer teams of parents at bus stops on busy streets and major roads. Safety is one of our highest priorities and bus loading and unloading presents an opportunity for staff and community to work together on accident prevention.
